Karlspitzen

Front (left) and Rear Karlspitze (right) - View from the top of the rear Goinger stop ( in the background Ellmau stop)

The Karlspitzen are a bimodal hill in the Kaiser mountains in the Northern Limestone Alps. The twin peaks is from the northern rear Karlspitze ( 2,281 meters) and the Southern Front Karlspitze ( 2,263 meters) with summit cross. The two peaks are connected by a sharp, exposed ridge, seen from the south, the Front Karlspitze is a distinctive, huge boulder, while the rear Karlspitze behind other (lower) hidden neighboring mountains.

Location

Charles tips project immediately west of Ellmau at the gate and the stone gutter, which lies in the central part, so to speak, in the heart of the Wilder Kaiser. East against rise the lower Goinger support and the pulpit. Directly north of the Karlspitzen include meat Bank and Totenkirchl, while further west, separated by the Kopftörlgrat, rises the higher Ellmau maintenance. Thanks to its location, the Karlspitzen offer great views of both the Wilder Kaiser and to the neighboring mountain ranges.

Routes

The Karlspitzen belong to the less visited and difficult to reach Kaiser peaks. No marked or secured route leads to the twin peaks, but here mountaineering experience, sense of direction and safe climbing ability, and a head for heights are required. The normal route starts at the Ellmau gate and is only marked by a few cairns. May be relied upon but not to each Mandl, some would lead you astray. However, the climber trails are usually easy to recognize, they guide you through a rock face schrofige largely steep with easy climbing up to UIAA II Difficulty scale in an hour on the ridge of the Karlspitzen. There the way to the rear or the Near Karlspitze branched.
