Károly Hornig

Baron Károly Hornig Cardinal Hornburg [ ka ː roj horniɡ ] ( born August 10, 1840 in Buda, † February 9, 1917 in Veszprém ) was bishop of Veszprém.

Life

Károly Hornig studied in Budapest and Vienna philosophy and Catholic theology in 1862, and received the sacrament of Holy Orders. He then became a lecturer at the Imperial University of Budapest, where he received his doctorate in 1869 as a doctor of theology.

As secretary of Cardinal János Simor, he participated in the years 1869 and 1870, the First Vatican Council.

From 1870 to 1878 he served as rector of the seminary of Budapest, from 1878 to 1888 he was director of the Archbishop of Esztergom firm. In 1882 an honorary appointment to the Pontifical secret chamberlain and Titularabt of the Monastery of Babocsa.

1888 Hornig received by János Simor Cardinal consecrated bishop and became bishop of Veszprém. Pope Pius X took him in 1912 as a cardinal priest with the titular church of S. Agnese fuori le mura in the College of Cardinals to. On December 30, 1916 crowned Cardinal Károly Hornig Charles IV as King of Hungary.
