Geography

Kartung, one of the oldest towns, is the southernmost city of the Gambia and is located in the West Coast region, district, Kombo South. The site is located about 9.5 kilometers south of Gunjur. The river Allahein, with its mangroves along its banks, is about four kilometers away.

Culture and sights

In Kartung a holy ( Crocodile ) pond and old well as place of worship under the name Folonko ( " sacred crocodile pool of Folonko " ) known. It is one of three sacred crocodile pool in the Gambia, the place of worship in Kartung is but the most remote and thus the least visited by tourists.
