Kasai-Occidental
Kasai - Occidental ( German Westkasai ) is a province of the Democratic Republic of Congo capital Kananga.
Geography
The province is located in the south and is bordered to the north by the Equateur province, on the southwest by Angola, to the southeast by the Katanga Province in the west of the province of Bandundu and on the east by the province of Kasai - Oriental.
History
The province was created in 1966 by merging the provinces Lula Bourg, Unité Kasaienne and parts of the province Sankuru.
Planned, never implemented division
With the adoption of a new constitution in May 2005, the Congo should be reorganized and Kasai - Occidental are thereby divided into two new provinces:
- Kasai with its capital Luebo
- Lulua with capital Kananga
After the appointment of the management change was previously postponed several times, President Joseph Kabila made this completely reversed in January 2011. This will continue to exist in its current form Kasai - Occidental. The two provinces thus planned to remain a district.
