Kashmir (song)

Kashmir is a song by English rock band Led Zeppelin and appeared in 1975 on their album Physical Graffiti. It ranks 140 of Rolling Stone 's 500 Greatest Songs of All Time.

Kashmir is one of the most known songs by Led Zeppelin. All four band members have mentioned that the song was one of their greatest musical achievements to date. John Paul Jones said, show it to all the elements that make up the Led Zeppelin sound, while Robert Plant ' Kashmir ' as his favorite song of the band named. In an interview with Rolling Stone in 1998 he called ' Kashmir ' as " the definitive Led Zeppelin song". As the bassist and keyboardist John Paul Jones was late for a recording session, Jimmy Page used the time to work together with drummer John Bonham on the reef. The two recorded the song as a demo for the first time at the end of 1973. Robert Plant added a little later on vocals added, and in 1974 played the keyboards Jones one. The confusing the distinctive riffs is the polymetric: While guitar, strings, bass and vocals in triple time move, the drums play a normal 4/4-Beat.

The guitar was played in an alternate tuning strings, namely in DADGAD or 'Open Dsus4 '. " Driving to Kashmir", the working title of the piece, got his text in 1973 by singer Robert Plant, while he was in Morocco on the way from Guelmim to Tan -Tan in the Sahara. Since the song is longer than eight minutes ( 8:23 ), he was not often played by the radio stations.

The dominant riff of the song was used among others in 1997 by Puff Daddy as the basis for his song Come with Me; recorded, it was supported by Jimmy Page and Tom Morello. Used with his band Rage Against the Machine Morello the reef in the song Wake up, who is also part of the soundtrack of the film matrix.
