Kate Markowitz

Kate Markowitz, also known by her stage name Kate Yanai ( born April 28, 1956 in Los Angeles, California as Kate Markowitz ), is an American singer.

Kate Markowitz is the daughter of famous film music composer Richard Markowitz. Actually, she has worked as a background singer for many famous artists. When she was staying in Europe in 1988 during a tour in France with France Gall, they took advantage of a free day for the inclusion of a one-minute piece of music as background music for a commercial for Bacardi rum.

The catchy melody, which also very often shown on television, soon enjoyed great popularity and was eventually even recorded and played by DJs. Then it was decided to make the song a proper single. The French composer Olivier Bloch- Lainé then wrote to the song and gave him along with the reactivated Kate Markowitz an ad-free summer text. Kate called Yanai, a name from their family tree, the song with the new title Summer Dreaming ( Bacardi Feeling) was recorded and 1991 summer hit in the German-speaking countries.

Despite or because of the great hype, the exposed Kate looked after the success of Summer Dreaming, they did not engage in an offered a record deal and their own solo career. In 1994 she published indeed record again, but with number 61 was the single Cry, Cry, Louise a flop. Thus it remains a uniquely German-speaking countries One Hit Wonder. However, they published in the U.S. in 2003 under her real name, the CD Map Of The World With self-penned songs.

Mainly Kate Markowitz works in the background on tours and recordings of famous artists. She was and is heard among others, James Taylor, whose regular occupation she heard Shawn Colvin, kd lang, Randy Newman, Don Henley, Billy Joel, Lee Ritenour and Graham Nash.

In 2012, the title Summer Dreaming was again taken in a cover version of Kelly Rowland and also used by Bacardi as a promotional song.
