Kenneth McNeill

Kenneth " Ken " Augustus McNeill, OJ, ( born February 18, 1918 in St. Mary; † 4 December 2001) was a Jamaican doctors and politicians of the People's National Party ( PNP).

Life

As a young man he worked as a doctor at Kingston Public Hospital, and later as a surgeon. 1955 McNeill founded the Jamaica Cancer Society ( Jamaican Cancer Society ).

His political career began in 1962 when he was appointed senator for the opposition. 1969 McNeill was the successor of the late Norman Manley member of the House of Representatives for the constituency of East Central St. Andrew. He stayed even after the next elections member of the House of Representatives, where he joined the parliamentary elections in 1976 in the constituency of North West St. Andrew. From 1972 to 1976 he served his country as Minister of Health and later as the Minister for the Public Service.

In 1977 he was awarded the Order of Jamaica.

In later years he worked as a hotelier and opened a resort in Negril and thus contributed to the development of tourism in this region.

McNeill was married and the father of five children. One of his sons is the politician Wykeham McNeill.
