The Kerry Airport ( IATA: KIR, ICAO: EIKY; Aerfort Chiarraí Irish ) is a small international commercial airport in the southwest of Ireland.

Location and Transport

The airport is located 20 km south of Tralee ( the capital of the county Kerry) and 15 km north of Killarney at Farranfore. It is close to the Killarney National Park and the west coast of Ireland to the Ring of Kerry.

For passengers, there are (as of November 2007) is a bus to Tralee with connection to the national bus network of Bus Eireann and a shuttle bus to the bus station from Killarney (transfer about 30 min). The airport has several car rental and a taxi stand. Farranfore railway station is about 2 km away from the airport and easily accessible by taxi or on foot via the in 2007 newly built walk along the road to Farranfore.

Airlines and destinations

Scheduled flights to Kerry Airport are currently offered by Ryanair from London - Luton, London - Stansted and Frankfurt Hahn as well as seasonal and from Alicante and Faro. Aer Arann flies to Manchester, and since November 2011 in the capital Dublin.

Until October 31, 2010 Kerry was one of the bases of Ryanair. This was closed and distributes stationed aircraft on other stations. As a consequence, several compounds were set, including to Weeze. Until then, Ryanair had played a crucial role in the history of the airport.
