Kerzers

Kerzers (French Chiètres; ? Freiburg Patois Tyétre / i ) is a municipality in the lake district of the canton of Fribourg in western Switzerland. It lies at the eastern edge of the Great Marsh, the largest vegetable growing area of Switzerland.

History

At the time of the Romans on the important road from Aventicum ( Avenches ) to Salodurum ( Solothurn ), the village was called " ad Carcerem ," which, among other things, " fence ", " prison " means. In old documents the following notations appear: Chartris Villa ( 926 ) Kercers ( 1153 ), Chiertri ( 1228 ), Kerzers ( 1276) and Chiertres ( 1285). The frühburgundische Queen Bertha gave 961 the monastery Payerne church.

On May 16, 1382 Freiburg bought for 1050 florins the Inselgau (today Zealand ) with all the towns until Bell mouth and port included Kerzers. Economy

In Kerzers there are 48 farms today. The largest farm with about 100 ha is one of the SGG (Swiss cooperative crop ). A large part of the products is sold to the COOP Switzerland cooperative.
