Kerzers

Kerzers (French Chiètres; ? Freiburg Patois Tyétre / i ) is a municipality in the lake district of the canton of Fribourg in western Switzerland. It lies at the eastern edge of the Great Marsh, the largest vegetable growing area of Switzerland.

History

At the time of the Romans on the important road from Aventicum ( Avenches ) to Salodurum ( Solothurn ), the village was called " ad Carcerem ," which, among other things, " fence ", " prison " means. In old documents the following notations appear: Chartris Villa ( 926 ) Kercers ( 1153 ), Chiertri ( 1228 ), Kerzers ( 1276) and Chiertres ( 1285). The frühburgundische Queen Bertha gave 961 the monastery Payerne church.

On May 16, 1382 Freiburg bought for 1050 florins the Inselgau (today Zealand ) with all the towns until Bell mouth and port included Kerzers. ( See also Aarberg ) After small wars and arbitration proceedings Freiburg lost almost the whole area over time in Bern, except the areas of Zealand, which still belong to Freiburg ( decision of Napoleon 1803).

During the war Laupen 1339, was Kerzers (belonging to Freiburg) to rubble and ashes. Until the conquest of the territory by Murten Bern and Fribourg, 1475 Kerzers was (but with the kingdom of freedom as Freiburg) subject to the Counts of Savoy.

When the troops of Charles the Bold in 1476 Murten besieged, the village was lost in a fire.

The Reformation, heavily promoted by Bern, in 1530 adopted by a survey of the population. As a common rule, the Murtenbiet of Freiburg iU was Bern and governed.

With the invasion of Napoleon Bonaparte in 1798 in Switzerland, the common rule and ended in 1803, after the end of the Helvetic Republic, Kerzers was finally assigned to the Canton of Fribourg. (See also under Murten )

From 1868 to 1888, the first Jura water correction was built. The associated land improvement and urbanization of the Great Marsh, a more intensive vegetable cultivation was possible from 1900.

Economy

In Kerzers there are 48 farms today. The largest farm with about 100 ha is one of the SGG (Swiss cooperative crop ). A large part of the products is sold to the COOP Switzerland cooperative.

Policy

After the local elections in March 2011, sets the seven-member council made up of members of the FDP ( 3), SVP ( 2), CVP (1) and SP ( 1) together. Susanne Schwander (FDP) is community president since 2006.

Traffic

Furthermore, the only standard gauge railway junction is also widely used in Switzerland Kerzers. It cross the railway lines Lyss -Payerne and Bern- Neuchâtel.

Papiliorama - Swiss Tropical Gardens

In Kerzers is the Papiliorama - Swiss Tropical Gardens, which specializes in the attitude of butterflies and moths, but also other exhibitions owns home.

Every year in March, runners take from home and abroad to Kerzerslauf. The race route is 15 km long.
