Kettering Prize
The Kettering Prize ( formally Charles F. Kettering Prize ) was awarded by cancer 1979-2005 once a year for outstanding contributions to diagnosis and treatment. It is one of three prizes awarded by the General Motors Cancer Research Foundation. The other prices were the Charles S. Mott Prize for outstanding contributions to research into the causes and prevention of cancer, and the Alfred P. Sloan, Jr. Prize for outstanding basic research in the field of cancer medicine. The Kettering Prize was endowed with $ 250,000. ( As of 2000)
The Foundation was established in the late 1970s, after several newspapers had reported in Detroit over a higher than average number of cancers among the employees of General Motors.
The award was presented in memory of Charles F. Kettering, inventor and long-time president of the General Motors Institute, awarded. 2006, the prizes awarded were discontinued due to the poor economy of General Motors.

- 2004 Robert S. Langer for the development of techniques for the controlled delivery of drugs over prolonged periods in the treatment of cancer. Langer was the first engineer who received the Kettering Prize.
