Kettering, Tasmania

Kettering is a village in the south east of Tasmania, about 32 km south of Hobart. It lies on the D' Entrecasteaux Channel opposite Bruny Iceland, to which a ferry service is offered. 2006, Kettering 392 inhabitants.

History

Joseph Bruny d' Entrecasteaux in 1792 discovered the area for Europeans. North of Kettering is Oyster Cove, where in 1847 the last Tasmanians were spent after the majority had died on Flinders Iceland. In October 1868, the first post office under the name Little Oyster Cove was established, which was renamed in 1892 in Kettering.

The people of Kettering today live mainly on agriculture and fishing. In addition, tourism plays a role in the bringing the ferry to Bruny Iceland with it an increasing extent.
