Khao Phing Kan ( Thai: เขา พิง กัน, literally slate rock ) is an island in the bay of Phang Nga in southern Thailand, known as James Bond Island.

Geography

The island is located in the district ( Amphoe ) Takua Thung, Phang Nga. It originally consisted of a large rock, which is shattered into two parts. The smaller half has slid down, the greater seems to lean to the side.

The island with lush green, up to 300 meters vertically ascending, riddled with caves and grottoes rock belongs to the Ao Phang Nga National Park ( Thai: อุทยานแห่งชาติ อ่าว พังงา ). The island as well as the rest of Phang Nga Bay with its bizarre limestone cliffs and emerald green lake has been shaped by wind, weather, ocean currents and tectonic movements of the last 100 million years.

The island is preceded Khao Ta Pu ( Thai: เขา ตะปู - literally Needle Rock, and Ko Ta Pu, เกาะ ตะปู - Needles Isle ), a pinnacle that has become world famous as " James Bond Island ". 1974 landed Roger Moore as a secret agent of Her Majesty in the movie The Man with the Golden Gun against the stunning backdrop of the island.
