Kharabali

Chara Bali (Russian Харабали ) is a city in the center of Russia's Astrakhan Oblast. It has 18,117 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010 ) and is located about 140 km north- west of the regional capital Astrakhan on the transition of the fertile Volga or Achtubawiesen in the wilderness of the Caspian basin. The city is located 40 km from the Kazakh border and 10 km from the run of the Akhtuba.

History

The town was founded in 1770 as Charabalinskoje ( Харабалинское ) and later received its present name. Since 1974, Chara Bali, the city has rights.
