Kieran O'Reilly

Kieran O'Reilly SMA ( born August 8, 1952 in Cork, Ireland) is Roman Catholic Bishop of Killaloe in Ireland.

Life

Kieran O'Reilly came in 1970 in the novitiate of the Society of African Missions in Wilton (Cork ), and then studied philosophy and theology at St. Patrick 's College, Maynooth. In 1974, he earned a Bachelors degree in Science and Literature in 1977 in Theology. 1978 was followed by a degree in missiology. On April 10, 1977, he made ​​his solemn vows. On June 17, 1978 Kieran O'Reilly was ordained a priest. He was then for two years pastor in the Archdiocese of Monrovia in Liberia. In 1980 he was sent to Rome, where he attended the Pontifical Biblical Institute in 1984 and earned a licentiate in Biblical Studies. Then he taught biblical studies at the seminary in Ibadan ( Nigeria). From 1990 to 1995 he was a member of the Provincial Council of the Irish Province of the Order of his institute, based in Cork. In May 1995 he was elected Vicar General and 2001, Superior General of the Society of African Missions. In 2007 he was re-elected for another term.

Pope Benedict XVI. appointed him on 18 May 2010 as bishop of the Diocese of Killaloe Ireland. He received his episcopal consecration on 30 August of the same year the Archbishop of Cashel and Emly, Dermot Clifford; Co-consecrators were Bishop Emeritus of Killaloe, William Walsh, and the Bishop Emeritus of Ndola, Noel Charles O'Regan, SMA.
