The King Fahd Causeway (English name in Saudi Arabia and Bahrain, Arab جسر الملك فهد Jisr al -Malik Fahd, rarely Bahrain Causeway, German King Fahd Causeway ) is a combined bridge and causeway link between Saudi Arabia and Bahrain.

The compound was built in 1981-1986, with its four lanes 24.6 meters wide, 25 kilometers long and consists of five islands connected by causeways and bridges, which together have a total length of 12.43 km. For the island state of Bahrain is the dam since its opening on 25 November 1986, the only road link to the mainland. The increasing economic importance of this compound led to plans for similar projects between Bahrain and Qatar, as well as between Qatar and the United Arab Emirates.

For the fully funded by Saudi Arabia $ 1.2 billion -dollar construction 147,000 tons of steel were needed. 2001 passed 2.7 million vehicles the King Fahd Causeway, with an estimated ten million passengers.

Halfway an artificial, 66 -acre island was filled in, each is half owned by Bahrain and Saudi Arabia. On it now, the only land border of Bahrain runs.
