The Return of the King Kong (Japaneseキング コング 対 ゴジラ, Kingu Kongu tai Gojira, dt "King Kong against Gojira " also known by the German " Slaughter of the Giants" and " King Kong is coming back ") is the title of a 1962 incurred monster film by the Japanese director Ishiro Honda. He is after Godzilla and a year later published sequel Godzilla returns the third Japanese movie about the cult monster Godzilla and also includes an adaptation of the King Kong figure, for their official use of the producing Toho Studios acquired the rights from RKO Pictures. The film is a representative of " Kaiju Eiga ", the genus of the Japanese monster movie.
Action
Dr. Muro brings Makiamato of the South Pacific island Faroa with huge berries that have a numbing effect. When he tells us that the inhabitants of this island worship a monster called King Kong, Mr. Tako, head of a pharmaceutical company, its employees Osamu Sakurai and Furue Kinsaburo sends out to bring the monster to Japan as an advertising medium.
At the same time an increase in the water temperature is reported from the Bering Sea, which can melt icebergs. A submarine that will explore this phenomenon, collides with an iceberg in which the Urweltsaurier Godzilla infected and now drifting toward Japan. On the coast Godzilla is driven back into the sea of Japanese tanks.
In the meantime, Sakurai and Furue arrive on the island Faroa and find there, in fact, the giant ape King Kong. The two will witness how King Kong brings a giant octopus to the track. When they are traveling by sea with King Kong to Japan, experiences of Tako shocked that King Kong must not be brought to Japan at the command of Tennō. However, King Kong can free itself and swims toward Japan.
As Fumiko Sakurai's sister, traveling by train is because they mistakenly believe that their friend Fujita has been the victim of a plane crash, crosses the returned to the mainland Godzilla their way. She is saved by Fujita.
Tako and his two assistants are witnessing a first clash between the two monsters, but the draw starts. The plan of the military to blow up Godzilla in a deep trench in the air fails. However, Godzilla can be kept away by high voltage towers of Tokyo, from which King Kong, however, can not be deterred. While Tokyo is evacuated, King Kong takes apart a train, wants to flee with Fumiko. King Kong kidnapped her and climbs with her on a building in the city center. In Sakurai's suggestion, the military King Kong drugged with the juice of Faroa berries. Fumiko will be saved; and King Kong is brought by helicopter to the Fujiyama, where he will meet with Godzilla. There, the two go at each other at once, leaving a trail of destruction. By a sudden earthquake overthrow both monsters into the sea. Godzilla no longer appears, King Kong swims back to his homeland.
Background
Originally this movie was under the name King Kong Versus Frankenstein an idea of the effects pioneer Willis O'Brien, however, with which he found no response. After several changes to the concept, the idea ended up with John Beck. This in turn turned to O'Brien's plans behind his back to the Toho Studios, which had once created Godzilla and Becks crate saw the solution to their current financial problems. Now Godzilla should compete against King Kong. 1962 finally began filming. In the same year, Willis O'Brien died of a heart attack.
After the original Godzilla movie from 1954 was The Return of the King Kong of the second Godzilla movie with Ishiro Honda's Director. Both King Kong and Godzilla, it was the first screen appearance in color. Under Honda's directing is in a supporting role as Dr. Akihiko Hirata Shigezawa back to see who had put an end to his role as Dr. Serizawa with his invention, the Oxygen Destroyer, Godzilla in the film of 1954.
The trick technicians Eiji Tsurubaya, who had worked in the Godzilla movie from 1954 with the Suitmation process, put it here again, because it was cheaper than the originally planned for King Kong stop-motion technique. So King Kong and Godzilla were put here by suitably clad actors in motion. The costume of King Kong is regarded by fans as the worst in the screen credits of the giant ape. After Tsuburayas statement Kong's appearance was deliberately designed in a more comedic style, so as not to frighten small children. - Real- however, was the octopus, together with the appliance King Kong on Faroa. For the rotation of this fight scene four specimens of this species were used; and it is said one of them had landed for Tsuburaya in saucepan.
Long did the rumor that Honda would have two different film ends staged: for the American audience he would have to win King Kong, the Japanese audience, however, would see Godzilla emerge victorious from the final battle. This assumption is now, however, to be untrue. It is true, however, that you have the original for the U.S. distribution supplemented with scenes with an explanatory reporter.
