Klooks Kleek

Klooks Kleek was in the 1960s, a function room at The Railway Hotel, West Hampstead, North West London, which still exists today. The club was named after an album by Kenny Clarke from 1956 ( Klooks clique, Savoy Records 12006 ).

History

Originally, the founders Dick Jordan opened here a jazz club; where from January 1961 every Wednesday Modern jazz was played. The large number of new groups that played at this time, rhythm and blues and blues, prompted him to organize a rhythm and blues every Tuesday night. At the club, there were no special facilities for performances by bands, so lacked even a stage. It was a bit as if they occur in his own living room.
