Knut Fleckenstein

Knut W. Fleckenstein ( born December 20, 1953 in Bad Nauheim ) is the Hamburg SPD deputy in the European Parliament since 2009. He joined the Social Democratic Party of Germany ( SPD), which in the European Parliament as part of the Group of the Progressive Alliance of Socialists and Democrats (S & D) is represented.

Education and work

After graduating from high school in Hamburg on Oberalster (1974 ) Fleckenstein trained as a banker (1976). My first professional experience gained Fleckenstein by an activity in the gas import Deutsche BP.

From 1984 to 1989 he was press secretary and office manager of the Second Hamburg Mayor Alfonso Pawelczyk and then took over the management of the Department for European Affairs and Development Cooperation in the Senate Office.

From 1989 to 1991 he held the post of Press Secretary and Head of the Protocol of the Hamburg Parliament. During this time, Knut Fleckenstein committed for the twinning between Hamburg and Saint Petersburg. As a member of the Executive Fleckenstein from 1991 to 1994 with a transport company Hansetrans active.

In 1994 he became director of the Workers' Samaritan Federation ( ASB) in Hamburg, where he worked until 2009. Since 2009, Knut Fleckenstein is Member of the European Parliament.

On October 23, 2010 Knut Fleckenstein was elected to the Congress of the ASB with 155 of 166 votes to national chairman.

Membership in the SPD

Knut Fleckenstein is Member of the SPD since 1974. The mid-1980s he was a member of the District Executive Hamburg -Wandsbek. From 1988 to 1995 he was a member of the District Assembly Wandsbek; whose chairman he was in 1994 / 95th From 1994 to 2004, 2007 to 2010 Fleckenstein was as culture and European Affairs Spokesman Member of the SPD - FDP Executive Hamburg. In 2008, he worked as a member of the expert teams of mayoral candidate Michael Naumann in the areas of Social Affairs and Health and as a member of the European Affairs Committee of the SPD party executive.

European Parliament

In the European Parliament is Knut Fleckenstein Chairman of the Delegation of the European Parliament Parliamentary Cooperation Committee EU-Russia relationship, a member of the Committee on Transport and Tourism and the European Parliament delegation to the Parliamentary Assembly Euro nest. For over 50 years, Knut Fleckenstein lives in Hamburg. He is married and has two daughters.
