Ko Hyeong-ryeol

Ko Hyeong - ryeol ( born November 8, 1954 in Haenam ) is a South Korean poet.

Life

Ko Hyeong - ryeol, was born on 8 November 1954 in the city of Haenam, at the southern tip of the Korean peninsula and grew up in Sokch'o, Kangwŏn -do. Following the completion of high school, he worked as a clerk in the public service in his community. He made his literary debut in 1979 with his poem The firstborn ( 장자 ), which in the journal Contemporary Literature ( 현대 문학 ) was published.

Some of his critics call him a Poet, with a ' strange ' voice. His voice is suppressed and haltingly, as even if it maintains the problematic issues such as Korean history, the national division of the country or the burning desire for reunification in a monologue. Although never tiring, so radiates Ko 's poetry but from the strength of compassion and warmth. These feelings based on his own view of the world, which is not that of a distant observer, but rather that of a direct neighbor who considers all things as if they were a direct part of his life. Over the years in which Ko matured as a poet, the tone of his voice became even more humble and genuine. Even while he laments the world full of sorrow and suffering, he manages life with compassion and understanding to embrace.

Ko was awarded the 2003 Chihun Prize for Literature.
