Komjatná

Komjatná (Hungarian Komjatno ) is a municipality in the northern central Slovakia with 1499 inhabitants ( 31 December 2011), which belongs to Okres Ružomberok, kraj a circle of Žilinský and is counted to the traditional landscape Liptau.

Geography

The municipality is located below the massif Šípska Fatra, a part of the Lesser Fatra at the upper course of the stream Komjatná, on the border between the provinces Liptau and Orava. The center is located at an altitude of 634 m nm and is 11 kilometers away from both Ružomberok as well as from Dolny Kubin.

The municipality was part of my end to be in the 19th century place Studničná (1600 mentioned in writing ), which remains a part of the municipality today.

History

The town was first mentioned in writing in 1330. The old Holy Ghost Church was probably built in the 14th century, mentioned in 1492 and went with the construction of the new church under in 1823. The inhabitants were in agriculture, but also basketry and wood carving busy.
