Komňa

Komňa is a municipality in Okres Uherské Hradiště in the Czech Republic. It belongs to the region Zlín.

Location

Komňa runs along the creek Koménka at the foot of the White Carpathians.

History

1261 Komňa was first mentioned in connection with the fortress on the mountain Zuvačov Hradek. During the Hussite Wars, it was probably destroyed. The place is one of the possible birthplaces of the pedagogue Johann Amos Comenius, is said to have chosen his last name after the place. Anyway, Komňa the seat of his ancestors, the Segesch. In the 18th and 19th centuries it was considered a center for the production of veterinary pliers.
