Komsomolets Island

The Komsomolets Island (Russian остров Комсомолец ) is the northernmost and third largest island of the Russian Severnaya Zemlya archipelago in the Arctic Ocean. The 9,000 km ² large island glaciated about 65 % and reaches a maximum height of 780 m. The island was first by an expedition of Georgy Ushakov and Nikolai Urwanzew (1930 - 1932) explored and named.

Currently, there are discussions on the renaming of the island as well as the archipelago. (: Santa Maria German ) Intended for Komsomolets Island is the name Svyataya Mariya.

The northernmost point of the island is Cape Arktitscheski.
