Konk (album)

Konk is the second album by British indie rock band The Kooks. It was released on 11 April 2008 in Germany and was named after the " Konk " studio of Ray Davies, in which it was recorded under the producer Tony Hoffer.

There is a special double CD edition of the album, which bears the name RAK. The second CD includes seven additional tracks and a second version of the song, See the Sun. The cover of the Special Edition is up on the red plate, which is blue with the regular version, identical. Namesake of this album are the RAK studios of producer Mickie Most, in which the additional pieces were added.

Use as a soundtrack

Mr. Maker was played in the episode of the BBC Three Winks sitcom Grownups, Do You Want in the series Gossip Girl on The CW, while Love It All was used in the second episode of the second season Chuck Versus the Seduction of the television series Chuck. Always Where I Need to Be, See the Sun, Love It All, Shine On and Mr. Maker were all used in the soundtrack of the fourth season of the BBC One television series Waterloo Road. Shine On was the music in various commercials.

Reception

  • Laut.de praised the " rousing, polyphonic singing " and the " sheer exuberant, sun-drenched harmony sense ".
  • Christian Preußer of Plattentests.de describes the sound of the band as "unique" and " urbritisch ".
  • Pitchwork.com denotes the Konk as Britpop album. The album refers to David Bowie, and the title on the Kinks, which try to mimic the band. ( "Their handle factually references David Bowie, but the album title slyly and phonetically conjures the Kinks, the band these guys try hardest to emulate .")
  • BBC Music takes that much seems to amount to the album on the recycling of guitar notes and intros ("The album Seems, on the whole, a little contrived with the recycling of old guitar lines and intros "). The band was enthusiastic and ready to impress less in their music. ( "It is the sound of a band who do not seem as enthused and as ready to impress". )
