Konstantinos Georgakopoulos

Konstantinos Georgakopoulos (Greek Κωνσταντίνος Γεωργακόπουλος, born December 26, 1890 in Tripoli ( Greece); † 1978 or July 26, 1973 in Athens ) was a Greek politician and former Prime Minister.

Studies and military judge

He graduated in Law at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens. During the Balkan wars in 1912 and 1913, he served as a reserve officer. In 1915 he became a judge of a military court. In 1923 he was discharged from the military judicial service in the rank of colonel. Subsequently, he was until 1951 a lecturer in law at the University of Athens.

Political career

His political career began in 1928 with the entry into the People's Party. In the Cabinets of Konstantinos Demertzis and Ioannis Metaxas he was from November 1935 to August 1936 under Secretary of State. Subsequently, he was Minister of Education in the Cabinet of the dictator Metaxas. After disagreements with Metaxas he resigned as Minister of Education on 25 November 1938 by his office.

Since 1948 he was president of the Greek Red Cross.

From 5 March to 17 May 1958 he was Prime Minister and Interior Minister of the transitional government between two cabinets by Konstantinos Karamanlis. From which he organized elections of May 11, 1958 emerged the victor to the Ethniki Enosis Rizospastiki ( National Radical Union, EUA) of Karamanlis, to whom he then gave the Office of the Prime Minister.
