Kornél Ábrányi

Kornel Ábrányi [ beads ː l a ː bra ː ɲi ] (* October 15, 1822 in Szentgyörgyábrány, † December 20, 1903 in Budapest) was a Hungarian pianist ( pupil of Franz Liszt), writer, music theorist and composer, and is considered one of the major Hungarian musicians.

Life

Ábrányi, was born in the village of Szentgyörgyábrány in the small area Hajdúhadház, in today's Szabolcs county, the son of a noble landowner Alajos Ábrányi. Music played a major role in this family and the family was in contact with others on the Hungarian composer János Bihari János and Lavotta. This impressed in the first few years, the musical interest of the young Kornel.

In 1834, he met with his music studies in Oradea ( Oradea dt ) on Ferenc Erkel. In 1841 he released his first record, and made ​​his debut the following year as a pianist in Oradea.

After he continued his studies abroad from 1843, he met in Munich Franz Liszt, who was on his trek through Europe. From this encounter, a sustained friendship between the two Hungarian composer revealed. After living in Paris, where he studied with Frederic Chopin, London and Vienna, he returned in 1847 finally returned to Hungary and was from 1848 to 1849 civil servant, where he at the same time also took part as a volunteer in the Hungarian war of liberation. Thereafter he lived in Budapest and founded the first Hungarian musical journal Zenészeti pages whose chief editor he remained until 1876.

From 1875, he has been instrumental in the construction of the Budapest Academy of Music, which was founded by his friend Ferencz Liszt. There he worked until 1888 as a teacher of music composition, music theory, music history and aesthetics of music teaching. In 1877 he published a musical education and textbook on music in Hungary, which was considered the greatest literary publication on this topic at this time.

On October 28, 1876, he presented at the Budapest National Theatre of the Hungarian public in, composed by Georges Bizet and previously premiered in Paris in the year, Carmen.

In 1882 he published the Bulletin Zenészeti (German music boxes ) and published in the works of Frédéric Chopin, Franz Liszt, Richard Wagner, Hector Berlioz and other Hungarian contemporaries.

Ábrányi wrote mostly piano pieces, choral works and songs.

Family

In his first marriage he was married to Josephine. From this marriage produced Emil (1851-1920), later a journalist, theater critic and writer and Kornel Ábrányi (1849-1913), later a writer and publicist.

His second wife Clementina Ábrányi (1858-1932) was a writer and journalist. This marriage remained childless.
