Korsze

Korsze [ kɔrʃɛ ] ( German Korschen ) is a town in the Polish Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship. It is located in powiat Kętrzyński and has about 4,500 inhabitants.

History

The village was mentioned in 1341 than in campo Cohorsen. The interpretation of the Old Prussian name is uncertain ( " Karsis " Hazel, " Karsa ": cave, cave). The village was founded in 1448 Korschen. It is believed that the place is much older, because there are reports of a knight of good Korschen exists and should be killed at the Battle of Grunwald 1410.
