Kouřim

Kourim ( German Kaurzim, 1939-1945 gurim ) is a small town in Central Bohemia with about 1,800 inhabitants.

History

Kourim is one of the oldest towns in Bohemia. Already at the time of the Slavic conquest was built on a hill southeast of the present city of a large, by a wall surrounded the settlement. It should have been originally founded by Cech's brother Lech, later she was the center of the tribe of Zlitschanen. Around the middle of the 10th century, ending the colonization of " Old Kourim " ( Czech Stara Kourim ) and the city was transferred to the level of the river Kouřimka.

Documented Kourim is mentioned for the first time in 1130, as a possession of the Chapter of Vyšehrad. From about 1200, the town belonged to the Diepoldsberg Ingern, from 1261 they occupied a royal town. Around this time, the Gothic church of St. Stephen was built, which still represents a landmark of the city.

Kourim was the Middle Ages about an important town that has maintained its position even after the Hussite period. Even in the early modern period it was the seat of the Kreishauptmann still relevant, but lost in the age of industrialization connection to the overall development.
