Kozara

Kozara ( Serbian Cyrillic Козара ) is a low mountain range in the northwestern part of Bosnia and Herzegovina, specifically in the republic of Republika Srpska. It is located in the Bosanska Krajina region between the rivers Sava, Una, Sana and Vrbas and begins about 30 kilometers northwest of Banja Luka. The largest part of the mountain belongs to the municipality of Prijedor. The hercynian aligned Mountains has a length of approximately 40 kilometers and a width of about 10 kilometers. The highest point is Mount Lisina 978 meters above sea level. The Kozaračko mountain passes in the north in the smaller Prosara and in the south in the Piskavica Mountains over.

The Kozaračko massif has a very dynamic relief. The central part of the mountain range takes the high level Mrakovica a (806 m). A large part Kozaračko mountain is occupied by the National Park Kozara, which was inaugurated in 1967 to protect the cultural and historic values ​​of the area. It has an area of 3520 hectares. The National Park is a member of the Association of National Parks of Europe.

At the top of Mrakovica Plateau, a monument inaugurated in 1972 by the Zagreb sculptor Dušan Džamonja is for Kozaračko battle in World War II.
