Koziniec, Lower Silesian Voivodeship

Koziniec ( German Lowenstein ) is a village in the powiat Ząbkowicki in the Province of Lower Silesia in Poland. It belongs to the urban and rural community Ząbkowice Śląskie.

Geography

Koziniec located eight kilometers northwest of Ząbkowice Śląskie in the foothills of the Owl Mountains. Neighboring towns are Kluczowa ( Kleutsch ) in the north, Brodziszów ( Dittmannsdorf ) in the Northeast, Zwrócona in the east, Olbrachcice Wielkie ( Großolbersdorf ) in the southeast, Stoszowice in the south, Lutomierz (Quick village) in the southwest and Różana ( Rosenbach ) and Owiesno in the northwest.

History

Lowenstein was founded before 1250 as a city and was created as part of the scheduled Aufsiedlung of Vorgebirgslandes. The first mention of it was around 1270 at the Heinrich Auer founding book. 1282 had the Löwenstein Vogt part of hooves in the north- west in the village Schonheide, which was probably an urban village of Lion's Arch.

After the Duke's founding of the city Frankenstein in 1286, which was created, among other things by resolution of the two smaller cities Lowenstein and Frankenberg, Lowenstein went with his urban privileges, most citizens and half of its place name on to the larger Frankenstein and Lowenstein sank to a village below.

Since 1331 the village Lowenstein belonged to the newly founded Duchy of Münsterberg and came with this 1336 under Bohemian suzerainty, the recognized Bolko II of Münsterberg in the same year the Treaty of Straubing.

After the First Silesian War, it fell like almost all of Silesia to Prussia in 1742. After the reorganization of Prussia Lowenstein belonged since 1815 to the province of Silesia and was since 1818 the county Frankenstein in Silesia incorporated, with which it was connected until 1945. Since 1874 the rural communities Peterwitz and Lowenstein were the District Peterwitz. 1939 consisted of 233 residents.

As a result of World War II Lowenstein fell in 1945 as almost all of Silesia to Poland and was renamed Koziniec. The German population was expelled. The new inhabitants were partly displaced persons from eastern Poland. In subsequent years, the Lowenstein castle was devastated. From 1975 to 1998 Koziniec belonged to the Province Wałbrzych.
