Koźmin Wielkopolski

Koźmin Wielkopolski ( Koschmin German, Polish and 1996 Koźmin ) is a town in Poland, in Wielkopolska. It is the seat of city and rural community in the powiat Krotoszynski.

History

In the 12th century there should have been at the site of the present Koźmin Wielkopolski a trading settlement. The first written mention of the village dates back to 1232 when the town was laid out according to Magdeburg law. Between 1251 and 1283 the town was granted city rights. In addition to the Polish place names Koźmin the German name Horle 1350 was mentioned. In the years 1312-1338 the city was a royal city. 1409 originated with the Tuchmacherzunft the first guild of the place. Because of the influx of other clothiers, the city grew from the 15th century outside the city walls - it was the independent city of Novy Koźmin ( to German New Koźmin ). Was founded in 1775 from the southern suburbs with Koźmin Niemiecki ( German Koźmin ) another city. At the Second Partition of Poland in 1793, the city was part of Prussia. From 1807 Koźmin was then part of the Duchy of Warsaw until 1815 it again fell to Prussia, and there became a district town of the district Koschmin. 1811, the three cities were combined into one. After 1837 the name was changed from Kozmin in Koschmin. In 1866, founded the first loan company in the city. In 1875 it was connected to the railway network of Jarotschin to Gniezno. 1919, the city came to the newly established Poland. In September 1939 Koźmin Wielkopolski was occupied by the German Wehrmacht. In May 1943, the renamed Horleburg was. In January 1945, the Red Army marched into the area and in the aftermath of World War II, the city was, as Koźmin, part of the People's Republic of Poland.

Population Development

Of the 4358 residents who lived in the city in 1890, 1039 were Protestant, Catholic, and 401 Jews in 2903. Furthermore, were about 2,500 Poles.

Culture and sights

Structures

The castle was built in the 14th century and rebuilt in the second half of the 16th century. From the second half of the 19th century was in the castle, a teacher training college, it now houses an agricultural school.

The Church of St. Lawrence is one of the oldest churches in the Wielkopolska Region and dates back to the 10th century.

The Holy Trinity Church is a wooden church in the late Gothic style. It was built in 1570.

Another beautiful church is the Stanislaus von Krakow Church. Originally from 1629 to 1648 on the site of a wooden church. 1648 started the construction of a stone. It was completed in 1670.
