KPN Tower

Gates op Zuid, internationally known as KPN Tower, is an office skyscraper in Rotterdam. The 96 -meter high house was built in the years 1998 to 2000. It houses the regional office of the telecommunications company KPN and was one of the first skyscrapers, which emerged as part of the urban renewal program. The building at the southern bridgehead of the Erasmus Bridge is one of the most influential buildings of the Kop van Zuids on the banks of the Nieuwe Maas

The building was designed by Renzo Piano. It has a floor space of 22,100 m², spread over 23 floors. A striking feature of the architecture is a marked tendency towards the street. Originally it was planned to support the building with pillars facing the street. Although the construction of today this impression awakened to be supported by a column, this serves no purpose. The gates op Zuid would be stable even without column.

The wall light comes from Henri cracks from Studio Dumbar. In the building there are 896 green lights that can be used to light installations and the possibility to create up to four samples per second. KPN, for example, it can be used for artistic performances, but also to support major events such as the World Port days or the Rotterdam Marathon.
