Kriváň (village)

Kriváň (Hungarian Krivány ) is a town in central Slovakia. It lies in the valley of the river at the foot of the mountain Slatina Veporské Hills near the towns Detva and Hriňová, about 28 km away from Zvolen and 31 km from Lučenec.

The community was officially established in 1955, when she was separated from the municipality of Detva. In 1993 the place Korytárky was spun off as an independent municipality.

Its history, however, begins as early as the second half of the 19th century, when the railway line Salgotarjan here - Lučenec - Zvolen - Vrútky was opened in 1871 (continuation of Hungarian Northern Railway of plague out ). The thereby formed station favored the development of industry around it, including houses from which sprung up later developed the community. The railway line is now part of the route Košice - Zvolen.
