Križovany nad Dudváhom

Križovany nad Dudváhom ( until 1948 slovak " Kerestúr "; Hungarian Vágkeresztúr - to 1907 Keresztúr ) is a municipality in western Slovakia, with 1833 inhabitants ( 31 December 2011). It belongs to Okres Trnava district and parent Trnavský kraj.

Geography

The municipality is located in the Slovak Danube lowlands along the river Dudváh, only about five kilometers west of the Waag. The place is located eight kilometers from Trnava and nine kilometers from Sered.

History

Križovany nad Dudváhom is an important archaeological site with remains from the Paleolithic and Neolithic ( Želiezovce and Lengyel culture), Bronze Age, Hallstatt and La Tène period. This includes a Roman- barbarian settlement and finds come from the Great Moravian period. The town itself was first mentioned in 1296 as Kerestur writing. A Romanesque rotunda has existed since at least 1246 and probably earlier. In the late Middle Ages and the modern era of Farming place often changed its owners: this included the families Rozgonyi, Báthory and Esterházy and domination goods from Beaver Lodge, Schintau and Lanschütz. In 1828 the town had 86 houses and 624 inhabitants.

The county until 1918 to Bratislava and the Kingdom of Hungary belongs to the place came after Czechoslovakia, and now Slovakia. 1975-1990 he was with the neighboring towns and Vlčkovce Opoj part of the community Dudváh.
