Krungthep Bridge

The Krungthep Bridge ( Thai: สะพาน กรุงเทพ, pronunciation: [ sà.p ʰ a ː n kruŋ.t ʰ ê ː p], German: Bangkok Bridge ) is a bascule bridge spanning the Chao Phraya River from the Khet (district) Thonburi for Khet Bang Kho Laem, Bangkok, Thailand.

The construction of the Krungthep Bridge was started on October 31, 1954 and concluded on March 24, 1959; The official opening took place on 25 June 1959. This makes it the second bridge over the Chao Phraya River in Bangkok, costing about 31 million baht. Four lanes and a pedestrian crossing can be used. The overall length is just over 626 meters, the longest span is 64 meters with a maximum depth of 7.5 meters.

Frequent traffic congestion led to the construction of the immediately adjacent Rama III Bridge, which was opened in 1999.
