The Kubena (Russian Кубена ) is a river in the Arkhangelsk Oblast and in the Vologda Oblast in northwestern Russia. It has a length of 368 km and drains an area of ​​11,000 km ². The Kubena is the main tributary of the Kubenasees and is thus an influx of Sukhona that flows on the Northern Dvina to the White Sea.

Important tributaries of the Kubena are the Sjamschena ( Сямжена ) from the left and the Sit ( Сить ) from the right.

The city Charowsk lies on the left bank of the Kubena. At the mouth of the Kubena in the Kubenasee is the place Ustje, the administrative center of Rajon Ustje - Kubensky.

The catchment area of ​​Kubena includes large areas in the Vologda Oblast and south of Arkhangelsk Oblast. It lies between the river systems of the Onega in the west and in the east Waga.

The source of the Kubena is located in the hills south of the settlement Konosha. The river flows from there to the south, reached the Vologda Oblast, then turns briefly to the northeast, then weiterzufließen again in a southerly and southwesterly direction. Below the mouth of the coming from the left Sjamschena the Kubena turns west. Below the city Charowsk meets the sit right on the Kubena. Finally, the river changes direction again and flows southwest to Kubenasee, where it forms a delta.

The last 21 kilometers of the river Kubena are considered navigable.
