Kupriyanov Islands
The Kupriyanov Islands are an archipelago off the southern coast of the South Atlantic island of South Georgia.
The small, not even a kilometer southwest of the coastal barrier islands are all uninhabited.
The name of the group goes back to the German - Baltic Antarctic explorer Fabian Gottlieb von Bellingshausen, the 1818 really only a nearby bay to Ivan Kupriyanov, an officer of his expedition ship Mirnyy named. Through an oversight the former cartographer the name was later adopted for the island group.
