Vindication Island

Vindication Iceland is a small uninhabited island located in the southern Atlantic Ocean British overseas territory of South Georgia and the South Sandwich Islands.

Located in the island group of the South Sandwich Islands, rectangular shaped island is just 4.5 km to the north-eastern neighboring island of Candlemas Iceland, the group of Candlemasinseln.

While Candlemas Iceland revealed volcanic activity until the end of the 50s of the 20th century, comparable findings for Vindication are not known. Although the island is of volcanic origin, such as rock samples returned, but probably for thousands of years inactive, supposedly extinct.

The two islands were discovered in 1775 by the British navigator James Cook.
