Kurt Koch

Kurt Cardinal Koch ( born March 15, 1950 in Emmen Bridge, Canton of Lucerne ) is a Swiss theologian, cardinal of the Roman Catholic church and former Bishop of Basel.

Life

Koch studied theology at the Ludwig- Maximilians- University of Munich and the University of Lucerne and was graduated in 1975. Initially, he worked as a lay theologian in Sursee. On 20 June 1982 he was ordained a priest and then worked for three years as a curate in the parish of St. Mary in Bern. After he became in 1986 professor of dogmatic theology and moral theology at the Catechetical Institute in Lucerne, he received his doctorate in 1987 due to a work on Wolfhart Pannenberg. In 1989 he habilitated. Koch was appointed honorary professor of dogmatic theology, ethics, liturgy and ecumenical theology at the Theological Faculty of the University of Lucerne.

1995 was chosen as the successor of Hans Jörg Vogel Bishop of Basel, Kurt Koch of Basel cathedral chapter. He received his episcopal consecration on January 6, 1996, Pope John Paul II His episcopal motto is: "Christ has first place in everything " and comes from Col. 1:18 EU.
