Kuwait national football team

The Kuwaiti national football team is the national team of the Gulf State of Kuwait. The national team is a member of the Asian continental federation Asian Football Confederation and the world governing body FIFA.

History

The Kuwait Football Association ( KFA ) was founded in 1952 and joined FIFA in 1962. In 1980, Kuwait Asian champion and 1982 took Kuwait for the first time at a FIFA World Cup finals.

When qualifying for the Football World Cup 2006 in Kuwait threw the favored Chinese out of the race, but could not qualify in the further course.

On 29 October 2007, FIFA decided on the suspension of Kuwait from all international competitions until further notice. The reason the government's interference was called in affairs of the Association.

On November 9, 2007, FIFA lifted the suspension temporarily on again. Should the Kuwaiti Football Association not fulfill his obligations, suspension shall enter into force again.

Kuwait played in the third round of qualifying for the World Cup 2010 against Iran, the United Arab Emirates and Syria. In the course of qualifying the team got only four points from six matches, and thus different from the group last.

2010 Kuwait won the West Asian Championship in Jordan.

Kuwait is among others with 10 league titles in the Gulf Cup record winner of this football competition, which takes place every 2 to 3 years.

Participation in the Olympic Games

After 1988, the national team has not participated in the Olympics and the qualifying matches to do so. The Olympic team took part in 1992 and 2000, but retired in the first round of.
