Kvistaberg Observatory

The Observatory Kvistaberg (Swedish: Kvistabergs Observatory ) is an astronomical observatory in the Swedish municipality of Upplands -Bro, which belongs to the University of Uppsala and is located between Uppsala and Stockholm.

The observatory resulted from a donation by Nils Tamm, an artist who in his youth in Uppsala Astronomy under Nils Christofer Dunér and Easts mountain beach studied and an avid amateur astronomer remained throughout his life. Through the use of Prof. Åke Wallenquist and Prof. Gunnar Malmquist at Uppsala University, the observatory was equipped with a large Schmidt camera with an aperture of one meter. Wallenquist the first director (1948-1970) was followed by Tarmo Oja (1970-1999) and Claes -Ingvar Lagerkvist ( 1999-2007 ).

To 2004 approved the University of Uppsala, close to the observatory. Basic and main buildings were sold to the community Upplands- Bro. In the domes, a museum was set up in collaboration with the community, which was opened under the direction of Bengt Edvardsson 2009.
