The Kwenge (Portuguese Cuengo ) is a river in the province of Bandundu in the Democratic Republic of Congo, which belongs to the Congo basin, the basin of the Congo.
Geography
The Kwenge in Angola, then flows in a northerly direction through the districts Kwango and Kwilu the province of Bandundu. North of the city Lusanga, formerly Lever Ville, it flows into the Kwilufluss, the seinerseit continue immediately to the north of the city of Bandundu in the Kasai flows. In the lower reaches of the river, large parts of the river valley are flooded periodically or permanently.
Population
The land between Kwilu and Kwenge was originally settled by the Pende. They are known for their helmets to be worn as face masks, to contribute to the amusement of the viewer at certain festivals.
At the headwaters of the Kwenge and Bakali have settled in the early 19th century in the savanna members of the Suku.
