Kyokutenhō Masaru

Kyokutenho Masaru (Japanese旭 天鹏 胜; * September 13, 1974 in Nalaich, Mongolia Njamdschawyn Tsebegnjam (Mongolian Нямжавын Цэвэгням ) ) is a Mongolian sumo wrestler. Since 2005 he has additionally Japanese citizenship.

In the early 1990s he began his Sumōkarriere in Japan and in 1998 reached the highest division for the first time. In 2012, he won the Natsu Basho -, where he was 37 years older than any other previously Sumotori in his first tournament victory.

Career

Kyokutenho belonged to the first group of Mongolian wrestlers who established themselves in the Japanese sumo. He joined the Ōshima stall and took the first time in March 1992 at the League operation part. In January 1996, he remained in the third division ( makushita ) without defeat, but lost the playoff to win the tournament against the eventual komusubi Kaiho Ryoji. Nevertheless Kyokutenho rose after this performance in the second division ( juryo ). After a poor performance in September 1996 tournament, he had to return to the makushita again, but managed the immediate resurgence.

After consistent performances Kyokutenho reached in January 1998 for the first time the first division ( Makuuchi ). He did, however, take downs twice in juryo, only from the Maiturnier 1999 he established himself in the Makuuchi. In January 2002 he was promoted after solid performances for komusubi, however, held that title not permanent. Its highest rank he took in July 2003 with the carriage for a sekiwake. However, since he could not reach a kachi- koshi, he lost this position again immediately. The same happened to him after two more ascents to sekiwake in November 2003 and May 2004.

At 37, he was so far the oldest Sumotori in his first Yusho ( tournament champion ) and one of the oldest tournament winner of the sumo - modern times at all.

Despite his Yusho Kyokutenho was not promoted back to komusubi. Finally, a winner of the tournament was in 1961 with Sadanoyama Shinmatsu not risen to the ranks sanyaku. At the July tournament Kyokutenho suffered with 2-13 a clear make- koshi.

Private

Kyokutenho is married to a Japanese woman and has a daughter. His younger brother Fudoyama was active between January 2000 and January 2008 as well as Sumotori. However, this rarely got beyond the Sandanme Division and reached the best ranking in July 2005, number 38 of the eastern group of makushita Division.
