Kysucké Nové Mesto District

The Okres Kysucké Nové Mesto is an administrative unit in the north of Slovakia with 33,316 inhabitants (as of 31 December 2011) and an area of 174 km ². It is the smallest rural Okres Slovakia. It is bordered to the north and Okresy Čadca Žilina in the south and west.

The Okres lies in the traditional region of Kysuca is essentially formed only from the immediate environment around Kysucké Nové Mesto around, within a radius of 4 to about 8 kilometers on either side of the current flowing from north to south river Kysuca. To the west of the river are the Javorníky, while the east stretches the hill country Kysucká Highlands.

By Okres runs only one parent road and although the state road I/11 (E 75), on his way from Zilina to Čadca and on to Czech Silesia, in parallel with the double-track line Žilina - Bohumín, along the river Kysuca.

Historically, the district is located entirely within the former county Trenčín (see also List of historic counties of Hungary ). In the Administrative divisions of Czechoslovakia in the years 1960-1990 he was part of Okres Čadca, within the Stredoslovenský kraj (Central Slovakian Regional Association ).
