Kyung-wha Chung

Chung Kyung- wha ( born March 26, 1948 in Seoul, South Korea) is a South Korean violinist.

She comes from a family of musicians. She is the sister of conductor and pianist Chung Myung- Whun Chung, and cellist Myung- wha. Together they formed a trio. The age of 12 she left her homeland to study with Ivan Galamian at the Juilliard School of Music in New York. In 1967 she won along with Pinchas Zukerman first prize at the International Competition Leventritt. In the Federal Republic, it was the discovery of the 1972 season concert / 73rd In January 1973 her the "Star of the Year" for the biggest musical event was presented in Munich in 1972, an award that had received a year earlier Maurizio Pollini. In late 1973 she performed in a televised recording of the Saarland Radio.

In 1982, they bought a house in London to live there. In 1984 she married a British businessman and became a British citizen. In 1988, she was EMI artist. Later she moved back to the U.S. and now has the American citizenship. In 2007 she became a professor at the Juilliard School. In 2011 she was awarded the Ho -Am Prize and returned to South Korea. In May 2012, she became a music professor at Ewha Womans University.
