Là -bas (French for down there ') is a song by the French singer and composer Jean -Jacques Goldman, which he recorded as a duet with British singer Sirima and was on his fifth album Entre gris clair et gris foncé. Appeared as a single in 1987, it was four weeks at # 2 on the French singles chart, overall it stayed 21 weeks in the charts and sold 593,000 times ( gold record ). Background

In 1987, the piece was finished and Goldman was looking for a female voice to stop shooting. Philippe Deletrez, Goldman's saxophonist, had Sirima discovered while singing in the Paris Métro and Goldman advised to meet with her. After several samples in the studio Goldman ultimately decided for to record the duet with her.

Words and Music

The song dealt with " the desire to escape from reality and the dilemma that opens up when you have to choose between a fresh start in life and the loss of his loved ones ."
