La Bisbal d'Empordà

La Bisbal d' Empordà is a Spanish city in the interior of the Costa Brava and the capital of the comarca of Baix Empordà. The city has 10,793 inhabitants (INE at 1 January 2013) and covers an area of 21 km ².

The name is derived from the Catalan bisbe and means " the Bishop " because La Bisbal d' Empordà was formerly conducted by the Bishop of Girona. The appended to the city name is derived from the d'Empordà Empordà county.

Old Town with St. Mary's Church from the 17th century and restored castle palace of La Bisbal (15th- 16th century). Arcade " Las Voltes ". Old Bridge ( Pont Vell ) over the Daró. Houses in a modernist style and its counter-movement, the noucentisme.

The town of La Bisbal d' Empordà is characterized by ancient ceramic workshops and beautiful, decorated by ceramic houses. The city itself is divided by the often dry riverbed in Old and New Town.

Culture and tradition

The Festa Major in honor of the patron saint is celebrated at the Assumption in the week of August 15.
