La Compôte

La Compôte, also Compôte -en- bauges called, is a village in the French Savoie département in the Rhône -Alpes.

Geography

La Compôte is located at 715 m above sea level. M., about 22 km northeast of the town of Chambery (air line). The village is located in the northwest of the Savoie département, in the center of the massif of the Wallows, in a basin at the mouth of Ruisseau du Grand Nant in the Chéran, on Südwestfuß of Mont Trélod.

The area of ​​7.57 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the massif of the Wallows. The central part is occupied by the valley of Chéran, which is about 1 km wide. From the north here opens the valley of the Grand Nant, from the south also a small side valley. In this southern valley extends the municipality area and reached at the height north of the summit of the Grand Colombier with 1954 m above sea level. M. the highest peak of La Compôte.

At La Compôte south include the hamlet of La Taillette ( 690 m above sea level. M. ) in the valley of the Chéran as well as some individual farms. Neighboring communities of La Compôte are Doucy -en -Bauges in the north, Jarsy in the east, and École Aillon -le- Vieux in the south and Châtelard in the West.

History

Is first mentioned La Compôte in 1090 under the name Composta; 1432 the name composte is preserved. By the end of the Ancien Régime La Compôte belonged to the rule bauges.

Attractions

The village of Sainte-Catherine church was built in the 19th century. On a promontory south of the village stands the Chapel of Saint -Bernard, which dates from the 17th century.

Population

With 228 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) La Compôte one of the small communities of the department of Savoie. After the population declined sharply in the first half of the 20th century, stagnation was recorded in recent years.

Economy and infrastructure

La Compôte was until well into the 20th century a predominantly by agriculture, especially dairy farming and animal husbandry, embossed village.
