La Litera

La Litera ( katalan. La Llitera ) is a Comarca (administrative unit ) of the Aragon Autonomous Community in Spain. It lies in the southeast of the province of Huesca, and has an area of ​​733.9 km ² 19,135 inhabitants ( 2013). This corresponds to 26.07 inhabitants per square kilometer. Capitals are Binéfar and Tamarite de Litera, the largest of the associated municipalities ( municipios ).

The Comarca is bordered to the west by the comarca of Cinca Medio, in the northwest of the Somontano de Barbastro, on the north by the Ribagorza, on the east by the province of Lleida in Catalonia ( Comarcas Noguera and Segrià ) and on the south by the comarca of Bajo Cinca.

The name is derived from the Latin lectuaria.

Besides Tamarite de Litera and Binéfar include the communities Albelda, Alcampell, Altorricón, Azanuy- Alin, Baélls, Baldellou, Camporrells, Castillonroy, Esplús, Peralta de Calasanz, San Esteban de Litera, and Vencillón to Comarca.

La Litera partly belongs to La Franja, the part of Aragon, with Catalan-speaking population, which forms the eastern boundary of the Catalan -speaking world at the same time.
