La Malbaie

La Malbaie is a city ( ville) and capital of the MRC Charlevoix -Est of the Canadian province of Quebec.

It lies on the north shore of the St. Lawrence River 143 km northeast of the provincial capital of Quebec.

According to the 2006 census, the city had 15013 inhabitants. The area is 470.57 km ².

La Malbaie was created in 1896 as a municipalité de village. 1958 was the municipal rights. Between 15 February 1995 and 1 December 1999, the city bore the name La Malbaie - Pointe -au- Pic, but then returned back to its old name.
