La Neuville -du -Bosc is a commune with 562 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the department of Eure in the Haute-Normandie region.

Geography

Geographical Location

La Neuville -du -Bosc is located in the Forêt du Neubourg ( Forest of Neubourg ) 17 km southwest of Elbeuf, 3.2 kilometers northeast of Harcourt and 4 kilometers north- west of the Castle Le Champ de Bataille.

Geology

La Neuville -du -Bosc is one of the municipalities in the department of Eure, in which the risk suddenly forming meter deep holes there. The so-called Marnières are old marl pits which have been provisionally filled with debris. You can open after heavy rain, when the rubble filling is washed into the side passages. These holes usually have a diameter of 1.5 to 2 meters. Throughout the Eure there are about 16,000 of these marl pits. There were in the past to flooding associated with the particular nature of the clayey soil.

In addition, there were limestone quarries locally. Limestone blocks were burned in the lime kiln. There is a risk that old quarries collapse, with cylindrical cavities can occur with several meters of depth.

History

Traces of settlement from prehistoric times was found in 1841 in the forest ( Forêt de Sainte Vaubourg ) at La Neuville -du -Bosc. Two flint axes from the Neolithic period and five major axes that had been cast in various forms, as well as various molds were discovered from the Bronze Age.

La Neuville -du -Bosc is mentioned for the first time in 1050 in a charter of Count of Brionne. The boundaries of the parish were established in 1281 by the Bishop of Evreux.

The Tithe Barn La Grange de canteloup from the 13th century was mined from 1967 to 1969 and used for the reconstruction of the abbey church of the Abbey of Saint- wall groove.

Policy

From 1855 until the late 80s of the 20th century, the mayor was always a member of the Conard family. The Acting Mayor called Bernard Forcher.

La Neuville -du -Bosc is part of the Local Government Association Communauté de communes rurales du canton de Brionne.

Coat of arms

The municipal coat of arms is blue with golden rectangles ( tickets ) on which a golden, upright lion is shown. The heraldic color " gold" is mapped to yellow crest.

Culture and sights

La Neuville -du -Bosc is represented with two flowers in the Conseil national des villes et villages fleuris ( National Council of flowery towns and villages ). The " flowers " are awarded as part of a regional competition, a maximum of three flowers can be achieved.

In the center of the municipality is located, next to the church with its large yew, a village pond.

Structures

Remains of the Manoir de Sainte Vaubourg a hunting lodge and chapel, which belonged to the lords of Le Neubourg and the Holy Walburga was dedicated, are located in the forest of Neubourg. It is a Norman porch, chapel and a draw-well. Next to the fountain there was an oak tree, which was dedicated to St. Barbara of Nicomedia. Believers scratching something bark of the tree, they mixed with well water and drank it as a remedy for fever. The Romanesque chapel was extended in the 12th and 13th centuries. At that time it was a place of pilgrimage, which was dedicated to the Agapetus of Praeneste.

The Sainte-Catherine church dates from the 14th century and was rebuilt in the 16th century. It houses a Pietà from the 15th century and a Marie -portrait from the 16th century. There is a coat of arms on the south facade.

Economy and infrastructure

In the 19th century there was a weaving mill in La Neuville -du -Bosc. Today, agriculture is the most important source of income. The municipal area protected geographical indication ( PGI ) for Pork ( Porc de Normandie), poultry ( Volailles de Normandie) and cider ( Cidre de Normandie and cider normand ) apply.

The former station between Harcourt and La Neuville -du -Bosc belonged to a railway line that since the end of the 19th century by Glos -sur -Risle ( station Glos -Montfort ) led to Evreux. Five times daily passenger trains stopped at the station and once a day driving a freight train from La Neuville -du -Bosc, the gravel from the gravel pits of the community, liqueur, Calvados apples and beets transported. The railway line was closed in 1970 and later paved. Today it serves as a bike and hiking trail.

Education

1973 a free school was founded in La Neuville -du -Bosc, the École de Neuville. 1982 left the school, the community, however, retained the name in.
